Young man's text messages reveal drug supply activity
A YOUNG Brassall man has been busted for supplying cannabis after police uncovered incriminating text messages on his mobile phone.
At Ipswich Magistrates Court this week, Peter John Swales pleaded guilty to eight counts of supplying dangerous drugs and other drug-related offences.
The 23-year-old's phone was seized by police after officers pulled over a car he was a passenger in and detected the smell of cannabis from inside the vehicle.
Magistrate Virginia Sturgess said Swales handed over his phone to police, as well as and his backpack which contained 33g of cannabis, scales and a grinder.
An examination of his phone revealed he had been supplying cannabis from September 18 to 26.
Defence lawyer Matthew Fairclough said Sawles had no prior criminal history and had cooperated with police.
Mr Fairclough said his client's period of offending was "not extensive" and that the quantities of drugs he supplied were "quite small".
Swales was placed on probation for 18 months. As a condition of the probation, Swales will take part in therapeutic interventions to address drug use and undergo drug testing.
No convictions were recorded.
