Woodchipper death case takes next step towards resolution

POLICE have almost completed their brief of evidence against three people charged with murdering Gympie man Bruce Saunders.

Peter John Koenig, 61, Gregory Lee Roser, 59, and Sharon Graham, 57, were arrested on May 30 amid allegations they conspired together to murder Mr Saunders.

They are facing charges of murder and perverting the course of justice with the trio currently remanded in prison.

Mr Saunders was killed by an industrial grade woodchipper in November last year on a Tanana Rd, Goomborrian property.

Emergency services were called to the scene about 8pm and while Mr Saunders' death was initially treated as accidental, further investigations led to the incident being treated as a homicide.

Mr Roser, Mr Koenig and Ms Graham were not required to appear in Maroochydore Magistrates Court today for a mention of their cases.

The court heard police had almost finished compiling evidence with the prosecutor commenting there was a "substantial amount of material".

Magistrate Maxine Baldwin questioned why the matters weren't being heard in Gympie and expressed concern it could cause delays.

Gympie police will be contacted in the coming weeks with a decision to be made if the case should be moved.

The matters will eventually be transferred to Brisbane Supreme Court.

The trio have not been required to enter pleas, but during Mr Koenig and Mr Roser's first appearance in court, they both indicated they would be contesting the charges.

Ms Graham has not indicated how she will plead.
