What’s happening in weekend sport

AFTER several matches were washed out in a number of sports last weekend, regional sportspeople are keen to enjoy their favourite activities this weekend.

Here's a look at what's happening around the region.

CRICKET: Plenty of play is scheduled with the Ipswich Logan Hornets having matches on Saturday and Sunday. The Hornets have a one-day encounter against Wests at Baxter Oval, Amberley, on Saturday before facing the Ipswich Pioneers in Sunday's Webb Shield match at Mark Marsh Oval (Limestone Park). The first division matches are Laidley against Brothers at Bichel Oval, Thunder hosting Northsiders at Tivoli and Swifts playing Centrals at Amberley.

MOTORSPORT: Tomorrow night fires up another big weekend with a Test n Tune session at Willowbank. Saturday's feast of action at the Ipswich Motorsport Precinct continues with the final round of the Queensland Drag Racing Championships at Willowbank Raceway, a Family Fun Day at the Ipswich Dirt Kart Club and Come and Try Day at the Ipswich Switches Junior Speedway Club. Saturday Night Roll Racing is next at Queensland Raceway. On Sunday, the main event is the Porsche Club meeting at Queensland Raceway.

SOFTBALL: Junior games are due to tee off at the Chubb Street grounds from 8am on Saturday with the A/A2 Ladies competition clashes from 5.45pm and the men's A grade games all afternoon and into the evening.

TENNIS: Junior fixtures around the region start at 8am and 2pm on Saturday at venues including Walloon, East Ipswich and Brassall. Senior matches are from 2pm at the same courts.

VIGORO: Junior and senior matches are scheduled to continue in the Ipswich competition from 8am on Saturday at East Ipswich after last weekend's intercity games against Fassifern were washed out.
