Vandals smash up foundation for new house
VANDALS used the cover of night to destroy the work of builders on a new home site at a residential estate in Beaconsfield.
Neighbours woke yesterday morning to discover up to 100 besser blocks, valued at more than $800 had been pulverised at the Miraflores Estate site, according to Rebetzke Homes founder Kevin Rebetzke.
The top row of blocks forming the foundations had been laid just days earlier in preparation of the concrete floor slab being poured this week.
"It will only slow us down by a day," Mr Rebetzke said.
There were seven houses close to the site, Mr Rebetzke said, and he was surprised no one had heard any commotion. The incident was being reported to police.
Mr Rebetzke said his home construction business had suffered from similar vandalism and theft incidents recently.
"It's pretty bad around town, they pinch the framing timber and the steel mesh and whatnot."
He said the incidents were becoming so frequent he had considered getting material deliveries early in the morning on the day of use rather than storing them on site.
But even that wouldn't prevent some incidents.
Mr Rebetzke said he'd seen installed windows and doors ripped out and taken.
