New craft beer Simmer Down Brown now available in Ipswich

IT'S the beer brewed by two Ipswich blokes that travelled halfway around the globe to get here, and it's going on tap at Yamanto.

Brewing mates Tony Brown and Liam Ahearn travelled to California late last year after winning a trip to the famous Sierra Nevada brewery - the place credited as being the birthplace of the craft beer.

Mr Brown and Mr Ahearn didn't spend all their time sampling the fine brews, they also had a crack at creating their own masterpiece.

The result was a new take on the tried and true India Pale Ale recipe, which the Ipswich lads have called Simmer Down Brown.

The beer was given a brown colour by adding specialty grain, while an Aussie touch was added by using "Galaxy" hops.

It all sounds complicated, however the result is a delicious drop from the same brewers who have already had a selection of beers on tap at Yamanto Tavern's Alehouse 24.

"This beer is a big, hoppy, in-your-face kind of IPA," Mr Brown said.

"You don't normally hear of brown IPAs but the people at Sierra Nevada were encouraging us to think outside the box."

The beer is also available on tap at the Archive Bar and the Burrow at West End, and the Scratch Bar at Milton, Brisbane.
