Unbeaten Goodna champions to continue title charge

NETBALL: The victorious Goodna Sapphires are set to continue their winning quest next season after completing another unchallenged South East Queensland Cup series.

The Sapphires maintained their unbeaten record, beating Downey Park 55-39 in the grand final at the State Netball Centre.

That sealed back-to-back titles for the Robyn Walsh-captained Goodna combination.

"I was really proud. It's such a great bunch of girls, Walsh said. "I felt like we deserved the win.''

Walsh offered a simple response when asked what she said to her triumphant team.

"I congratulated them all on their level heads and that no one got caught up in the moment,'' the experienced netballer said.

"We remained calm and confident, and everyone on and off the court did their job.''

Expecting everyone to return next season, Walsh also shared why the Sapphires have been so dominant.

"There are never any issues in the team when it comes to court time or positions,'' she said.

"Everyone who is in the team feels very blessed to be a part of it.

"I do know that there are plenty of other players that would love to be in this team. Not only due to our success but the culture within the team is a major factor.

"We feel great that we are able to do this for the Goodna Netball Association.''

The Sapphires will have a special celebration after contesting the state indoor championships in Caloundra in a couple of weeks.

Walsh, Rebecca Asquith, Tayla Colliee and Amelia Soloai are also travelling to South Africa next month to compete in the Indoor Netball World Cup.
