Track champion battle heats up
THIS weekend is round five of the Queensland Drag Racing Championships, featuring five brackets and testing from some spectacular cars.
With only two more rounds after this, competition is heating up in the race to be crowned the track champion.
At Queensland Raceway it's another big weekend.
Tonight is Friday Night Drifts, before the Ipswich Open Sprints tomorrow.
The fastest sprinters in Queensland line up for the open sprints, with around 50 cars competing.
Straight after the sprints is the Saturday night roll racing. Roll racing is a popular affair with over 100 cars hitting the track this weekend.
Meanwhile, last Sunday was exciting at Willowbank Raceway with the sounds of yesteryear at the Cruzin Magazine Nostaglia Drags and Hot Rod Reunion.
The track was filled with classic and chrome- bumpered drag cars of an era gone by.
The Show 'n' Shine was filled to the brim with some of the state's best hot rods and classics as rockabilly music filled the air.
My favourite part of the day was seeing the two Nitro Hot Rods - Bezerk and Psycho, who did the fastest side-by-side fuel altered pass in Australia.
Raced by Aeroflow pilots Shane Olive and Rich Gauci, it was a real treat to witness this amazing feat.
A special thank you to the grand marshall Graeme Cowin for bringing these cars for the first time to Willowbank Raceway. I hope they come back soon.
At Queensland Raceway, it was endurance weekend. Three categories had one hour races with Production Sports being won by Grant Sparks in his Porsche.
The Gemini/HQ one hour was won by Nick Rangeley and Ashley Jarvis in a Gemini and John McLaughlin taking out the Excel one hour.
