Top viewing at Willowbank as final round decides champions
IT is going to be on for young and old this weekend at Willowbank Raceway, with the final round of the Queensland Drag Racing Championships deciding top drivers across nine big categories.
Adding to the thrills is the fact that in many categories, it is anyone's game.
The points are too close to call, and with eliminations style racing the battle ground of choice, it is impossible to predict who will hold the big trophy aloft at the end of the night in a number of the classes.
The QDRC is a great day and night out any time of the year, but the final round is sure to offer something special.
I won't be missing it for anything, although I may sneak away to check out the events happening at the Ipswich Dirt Kart Club, the Ipswich Switches Junior Speedway Club and Queensland Raceway.
Before the QDRC champions hit the track tomorrow, a number of them will be taking advantage of the Friday night Test n Tune at the drag strip.
If you are around I highly recommend you head on over.
Test n Tunes are always a great relaxed occasion to hang out, see some great cars and bikes on-track. You can even have a go at the quarter-mile yourself.
But when we are talking about Test n Tunes ahead of a QDRC round, and especially the final, it is also a great chance to suss out the form of the racers and make your early championship predictions as they take advantage of the chance for last minute preparation ahead of the big day.
While the action will be pouring in aplenty tonight and tomorrow nights, I am also looking forward to heading back out on Sunday, where there will be Porsche Club racing at Queensland Raceway.
With no less than six events on deck this weekend, it's just your usual busy weekend out at the Ipswich Motorsport Precinct.
How lucky are we to have such a wide range of motorsport on our doorstep.
AS excited as I am about what is coming tonight and this weekend, let me tell you about what I got up to last weekend.
It was all about the bikes last Saturday and Sunday, with the Moto Ride Day at QR followed the next day by their Formula Xtreme Series.
As much as I love all on four wheels the bikes really turn it on and it was great to soak up all the two-wheel action.
With a huge range of prizes on offer for the Formula Xtreme series which I am told is the largest prize pool by far for a Queensland motorcycle series, the competition was fierce.
Ben Leonard took out the honours at the end of the weekend, and got a fully-prepped Kawasaki Ninja 300 for the National 300 class for his efforts - how cool is that.
I also made time for some four-wheel pursuits - taking in the Friday Night Drift at QR and the Madaz Burnouts on Saturday afternoon.
All in all, it was a pretty balanced and busy weekend for this rev head.
I can't wait to see what this weekend will bring, in particular I want to send my good luck to all the QDRC competitors. I will be there cheering you on from the sidelines.
