Top five motorbikes of 2016 for your Christmas wish list

IF YOU'RE in the market for a motorbike, and if you're not, this list is sure to get your heart racing.

Whether it's the roar of a Harley Davidson that gets your leg hairs standing on end, or the pure speed of a Yamaha, the top five motorbikes of 2016 cater for every rider.

The experts at Cycle World released its top ten bikes of 2016 earlier this year, of which we've narrowed down to an intimate five.

Best Cruiser: 2016 Harley-Davidson Low Rider S

You can't beat the Harley's authentic styling and signature swag, and the Low Rider S pushes it to a new edge. They've kitted out this bike with the biggest engine possible and it's noticeable. Cycle World even dubbed it the best bike Harley-Davidson has ever made. Big call.

Best Superbike: 2016 Yamaha YZF-R1

This one is designed to dominate the racetrack and with a high power, high torque engine, with lightweight chassis and wheels it's a match made in heaven. The incredible amount of control technologies also sets this model a head above others.

Best Standard: 2016 Triumph Bonneville Street Twin

A modern take on a British classic, this line closely resembles the 1959 Triumph Bonneville - and there is nothing bad about that. Designed with individualism and customisation in mind, it's the perfect starting point to creating your own custom bike.

Best Adventure Bike: 2016 Honda CRF1000L Africa Twin

Dubbed the 'go anywhere' bike, this adventure classic is a great all-rounder. Its everyday agility and comfortable off-road performance makes it a top choice. Mass centralisation - like the battery packaged at the rear of the cylinder head - contributes to the bike's low centre of gravity and overall strength.

Best Open-class Streetbike: 2016 Aprilia Tuono V4 1100 RR

This baby is a bigger, better version of the Tuono but with a larger cylinder bore to bump displacement from 1,000cc to 1,077cc. All the shortcomings of the last model have been more than rectified with this beast. Plus it sounds like heaven on wheels.
