Choat upbeat about his time as a parliamentarian

Despite losing his seat of Ipswich West at the January 31 election, former MP Sean Choat remains upbeat about his time as a parliamentarian.

Mr Choat sent an open letter of thanks to the community of Ipswich West, saying farewell after three years as their representative.

"IT WAS an honour and a pleasure to serve the people of Ipswich West. I got to know some fantastic locals from across the community and made lifelong friends.

Nicky and I were always made to feel welcome wherever we went, and in particular, by the wonderful people in the small towns and rural communities across the Bremer, Lockyer and Brisbane Valleys.

When first I decided to run in 2005, I wanted to make politics local again and deliver improvements for a better and safer community. I'm pleased to be leaving Ipswich West in a better state than I found it."
