Teens call for more entertainment and part-time jobs

A LACK of entertainment and part-time work were among the issues young people raised at last night's What's it All About? forum.

Ipswich City Council hosted the forum at Studio 188 to give the city's youth a chance to share their ideas for the city with council.

Council's Youth and Seniors Committee chairwoman Sheila Ireland said about 30 young people, mainly high school and university students, attended the forum.

Cr Ireland said despite the efforts of the Mayor and council's Economic Development department to attract businesses to the city, the students said it was difficult to find part-time work.

Those who attended the forum also wanted to see more entertainment and activities in the Ipswich Mall.

They were impressed with the recent Battle of the Bands in the mall and will meet with Ipswich City Square marketing team on ideas for further programs in the mall.

Cr Ireland said the forum was a great opportunity to get direct feedback from the city's youth.

"Council is committed to working with Ipswich's young people to make the city a place that they are proud to call home which offers opportunities for work and study," she said.
