Talty hits out at 'misinformation' in Choat flyer
LEO Talty has not done any preference deals with other candidates or parties and said that is why he was "insulted" by a campaign letter from Ipswich West MP Sean Choat that suggested he had.
Mr Talty, the independent candidate for Ipswich West, said he received a campaign letter from Mr Choat which said "the Palmer Party, the Katter Party, the Greenies and the Independents have done a deal to swap and 'harvest' your preferences" to create a hung parliament.
Mr Talty said he was "sick of the bull associated with the political debate" and had a message for Mr Choat.
"Let me be clear on this Sean. I have done no preference deals and I will not be distributing any 'how to vote' cards at this election," he said.
"I am the only independent candidate in Ipswich West and I found your letter both an insult and misleading."
Mr Talty said Mr Choat had "generalised in a leaflet specific to our area and he has no right to do that. He is suggesting I am one of the independents that have done a deal, but I have done no deals."
Mr Choat said he had kept his leaflets localised but that head office had "generic" statements that they placed on them.
Still not sure who to vote for?
"I am sorry he is offended, but I hope he understands that there are some things you can't control like those central mailouts," Mr Choat said.
"I am not into preferences. I think people should make up their own minds."
Mr Talty said "our preferential voting system allows us to select the next best thing if our preferred option doesn't win on the day."
