27 runs! WBBL star’s horror over
SOMETIMES a bowler just has an over from hell.
On Monday, that was the case for Sydney Thunder all-rounder Nicola Carey, who conceded 27 from an over in her side's loss to the Perth Scorchers.
Her horror over spanned 10 deliveries - she delivered four wides down leg side resulting in 14 runs - as the right-armer just couldn't get her line right to Scorchers star Natalie Sciver.
Carey came on in the fifth over of the Scorchers' run chase with the home side at 1-31.
By the time her rough ride was over the Scorchers, chasing the Thunder's 4-134, were 1-58 from just five overs and well on the way to victory.
Carey started the fourth over of the innings with a wide, keeper Rachel Priest given little chance as the ball found its way to the fine leg boundary. The result, a painful five runs - with the ball of course having to be bowled again.
Another misdirected ball with her second attempt tickled the glove as Sciver cashed in.
By the time Carey again drifted down leg side, past Priest and to the fence, she was slumped with her hands on her knees and looking for answers.
When she did get her line right, Sciver was onto it as she cut the sixth delivery through point for four and also pulled successive short balls to the outfield - one to the boundary.
It was a tough day for the highly-talented Thunder star, the Scorchers cruising to the target with eight wickets and nine balls to spare.
