Travel: Stepping out in style in Kuala Lumpur

WHEN my daughter was 10 years old she took me shopping to buy her some new shoes.

The wife was working and I thought this would be a breeze and I'd get plenty of brownie points for doing it.

We were at a major shopping centre in Sydney and daughter, Aby, soon found the biggest and best shoe store.

With me in tow we walked in and then began the search for just the right shoes for an upcoming school social.

After three hours and still no decision I realised I had been officially introduced into selective shoe shopping.

Things haven't changed from that day onwards and now talk of buying new heels is done when I am out of the room.

Having said all that, there is one place I could be enticed to go to look at women's shoes and that is Malaysia.

The reason is Kuala Lumpur has been the site of Malaysia International Shoe Festival for the past seven years and each year the event gets bigger and better.

Fashionistas are now on their marks for the 2016 Shoe Festival, which runs over three days from April 29 to May 1.

From sky-high stilettos to sleek sandals, if you are chasing the perfect pair of shoes, then this event is guaranteed to deliver paradise on earth.

The festival is one of Kuala Lumpur's most eagerly anticipated annual shopping events and takes visitors on a fascinating journey into the world of designer footwear.

Staged at the Putra World Trade Centre, this year's event will feature almost 50 local and international shoe brands, and is expected to draw more than 70,000 local and overseas visitors across the three days.

The festival is promising to be even more spectacular than previous editions, with an emphasis on high fashion, and offering an unprecedented opportunity to experience some excellent shoe shopping, amazing bargains on designer shoes, and the chance to check out all the latest fashion from local and international shoe designers firsthand.

And when you get bored of playing Cinderella, sit back and take in one of the many fashion shows, shoe-making demonstrations and shoe-designing competitions.

Once again, this year's program will feature Malaysian footwear legend Jimmy Choo and New York-based Malaysian international fashion designer Zang Toi. The two icons will be recognised for their contribution to both the festival and to Malaysia's fashion landscape generally.

Zang Toi will also stage a glamorous fashion show to present the Autumn/Winter 2016 collection of his internationally acclaimed footwear brand, Zang Toi.

Other tantalising attractions include the announcement of the winners in the Killer Heels Competition, fashion shows from local and international designers, all the latest shoe trends, amazing promotions and much more.
