Chook farmer sees green shoots for small business

IAN Simons is living proof that the Greens care deeply about the prosperity of small business.

The rural chook farmer is the Greens candidate for Ipswich West who made a compelling speech to the QT Meet the Candidates Forum this week.

"I am a small business operator... and as half of the private sector workforce consists of small businesses we Greens appreciate that the setting up and operating of a small business can be a tough and risky business," he said.

"The Greens will create a fairer market and a level playing field.

"At the federal level competition policy needs to be strengthened.

"At the State level, we Greens would legislate to protect small businesses from unfair clauses in contracts with larger businesses and create an independent small business ombudsman empowered to investigate complaints from small businesses and to represent their interests effectively."
