Outrage as baby’s mouth taped shut
A horrifying video has emerged of a distressed baby with a dummy wedged in his mouth that has been forcibly closed with sticky tape, causing a major scandal.
The footage, which was uploaded to Instagram, shows a helpless 12-week-old baby boy in a hospital cot constantly shaking his head from side to side.
A dummy was put in his mouth and taped to stop him from spitting it out.
The white tape goes the from cheek to cheek meaning the baby, named by media as I. A. Kartoev, would be unable to spit it out if he falls asleep or coughs.
It was allegedly filmed by a worried mother as she walked past the baby's ward. She posted it online with the caption: "Those of a nervous disposition should not watch."
Hundreds of shocked users then posted comments, concerned for the baby's welfare.
"This is a peri-natal centre in Ingushetia," one user said.
"The baby is now on a ward in a cold room without any heaters.
"His mother is not around. The pacifier is fixed with a sticky tape despite the boy having problems with his lungs."
The shocking act is thought to have took place at a pre-natal hospital in Ingushetia, southwest Russia.
However, it has denied the child's mouth was taped up by a doctor or nurse.
Newspaper Moskovsky Komsomolets reported that an unnamed mother had admitted to the act, but this was not immediately confirmed by law enforcement.
Police have launched an investigation to establish who abused the baby - and why it was not immediately noticed.
The chief physician of the Republican Peri-natal Centre Khadi Ugurchieva said that the nurse was absent from the ward for about three to five minutes.
"Just at that moment the moment this happened and the filming was carried out," he told The Mirror.
"The filming did not cause physical harm to the child's health.
"But it caused moral damage.
