Severe storm moves towards Scenic Rim, Lockyer Valley

6:30 PM SEVERE thunderstorms are looming for people in the Gympie, Scenic Rim, Southern Downs, South Burnett and Lockyer Valley areas on Friday night.

The Bureau of Meteorology warns that, at 6:25 pm, severe thunderstorms were detected on weather radar near Maryvale.

These thunderstorms are moving towards the northeast.

They are forecast to affect the area northeast of Kingaroy, Wondai and Cherbourg by 6:55 pm and Murgon, Goomeri and Kilkivan by 7:25 pm.

Damaging winds, heavy rainfall that may lead to flash flooding and large hailstones are likely.

102km\h wind gust was observed in Kingaroy around 5:50pm.

Marble size hail has been observed in Warwick.

3:45 PM: 

The storm warning area has been updated to include parts of the Wide Bay and Burnett. 

The areas which may be affected in the next several hours include Toowoomba, Dalby, Oakey, Pittsworth, Jondaryan and Yarraman. 

3PM: A SEVERE thunderstorm is moving on the Darling Downs, Granite Belt and Southeast Coast.

The Bureau of Meteorology warns that the storm is likely to produce damaging winds, heavy rainfall and large hail that may lead to flash flooding.
