Satirical video puts boot into Gladstone industry
A YOUTUBE video that promotes Gladstone as a tourist destination - if you use plenty of imagination - and criticises the impact of dredging and mining on the Great Barrier Reef, is clocking up the views online.
The video by A Rational Fear features a satirical episode of Getaway, with "some reasonably attractive, interchangeable woman that probably got Cs at school" as the main presenter.
The episode presents a new concept in holiday making - retrospective tourism, remembering the way things used to be.
While light-hearted at first, the video has a strong environmental message, taking to task the Queensland Government and mining industry for "destroying a natural wonder 20 millions years in the making".
It mentions Gladstone harbour as a "monument to the pharoahs of our society", and features shots of diseased fish.
It also shows Gladstone two years into the future as a dark, industrial wasteland.
Clive Palmer, Gina Rinehart, Campbell Newman and Leo Zussino all get a mention.
Check out the video and let us know what you think. It is a fair call, or too harsh?
