England star delivers stinging wife sledge to Wallaby

NBA legend Reggie Miller got it. Aussie cricket great Mark Waugh was never allowed to forget it. And now we can add Wallabies star Matt To'omua to the exclusive list of star athletes to be burned by the talent within their own family.

To'omua delivered a brilliant. lighthearted take-down of his Leicester Tigers teammates earlier this week ahead of their showdown in the Rugby World Cup quarter-final between Australia and England on Saturday evening.

But the smile would have been wiped off the Wallabies star's face on Friday when English star Ben Youngs got his right of reply.

To'omua poked fun at Youngs by declaring he "wasn't even the best player in his family" - referencing fellow English star Tom Youngs.

To'omua's sledge borrowed the same line that roasted Mark Waugh about being one peg below brother Steve Waugh, and Miller famously copping it for being outperformed by his sister, Cheryl Miller.

Unfortunately for To'omua, Youngs had some dynamite material about To'omua's superstar wife, Ellyse Perry, up his sleeve when asked about the former Brumbies star's comments on Friday.

"He's pretty happy with himself, he sent me the video," Youngs said of To'omua's chip.

"It's funny talking about second fiddle. He's married to Ellyse Perry, so he knows my pain."

It's hard to argue with Young's brutal take-down given the record winning streak of the Aussie women's cricket team and the series of records Perry broke during Australia's Ashes victory earlier this year.

To'omua will be hoping to reply on the field.

The 29-year-old played with England flyhalf George Ford, centre Manu Tuilagi, scrumhalf Youngs, winger Jonny May and prop Dan Cole at Leicester Tigers for three years and said he was prepared to reveal all to reporters in Oita earlier this week.

"I will list (their weaknesses) now for you if you want?" To'omua deadpanned at a news conference.

"Manu is a terrible snooker player, George Ford never pays for a beer, Ben Youngs isn't even the best rugby player in his family, let alone the country.

"The chicken, Jonny May, very weird and Dan Cole doesn't have a personality. So I have just been telling everyone about that."

British reporters lapped up To'omua's humour before he put a serious slant on his analysis.

He was intrigued by the demotion of in-form five-eighth Ford to the bench this weekend but believed it would spell late danger for the Wallabies.

"He's been brilliant the last couple of years but teams nowadays really they are using that 23 mentality, particularly at the World Cup," To'omua said.

Versatile back To'omua returns to the reserves bench role against England, where he made an impact in the opening pool games against Fiji and Wales.
