Rangers suffer double defeat at the hands of Gladiators

THE Goodna Gladiators have earned the first bragging rights of the 2017 season.

Against cross-town rivals the Ipswich Rangers on Saturday, both clubs were looking to start the season with a win at Woodend Park.

Victorious in the pre-season Rugby Tens tournament earlier this month, the Gladiators continued their strong start to the year with back-to-back victories over the Rangers in both Barber and Pegg Cup competitions.

Goodna started the day with a convincing 45-12 win in the Reserve Grade Pegg Cup clash with the Rangers.

Led by Goodna coach Walter Seupule, the Gladiators followed up with a second 34-15 victory in the Barber Cup.

Ipswich will have to wait until round six to reclaim the local derby honours against Goodna.

This weekend the Rangers travel to Elenora Park against Wynnum in both Barber and Pegg Cup games.

Goodna have the bye.
