Rain gods answer drought-stricken farmers in west QLD

THE heaven's finally opened up in western Queensland after six months of no or drops of rain.

Barcaldine and Longreach benefited from storms on the weekend - the first decent rain since March for either town.

Barcaldine recorded 156.4mm over Saturday and Sunday. The last time Barcaldine received significant rainfall was in March - 75.8mm throughout the month.

Longreach only recorded 19.6mm yesterday, which was the most amount of rain since June (24.2mm over two days). The previous significant amount of rain recorded was 48.2mm throughout the month of March.

The rain resulted in some road closures in the region:

Barcaldine Isisford Road, Barcaldine Downs at Home Creek - Closed to all vehicles

Capricorn Highway, Barcaldine - Open (with caution)
But, Closed at Back Creek - Proceed with caution

Ilfracombe Aramac Road, Aramac - closed at Lagoon Creek - Closed to all vehicles

Isisford Blackall Road, Isisford - closed at 10 Mile Creek - Closed to all vehicles

Tariin Bauhinia Downs Road, Taroom - Palm Tree Creek - Closed To All Vehicles - Use Alternative Route
