Police arrest man at Bluewater Lagoon after Mackay CBD chase

A man was arrested in front of women and children at the Bluewater Lagoon after a dramatic police chase on foot through the CBD.

Several officers were seen in pursuit of a man along River Street and the Bluewater Trail near Caneland Central just before 2pm.

The man then jumped a fence into the Bluewater Lagoon area and was arrested in front of about 50 children.

It is believed the man was wanted in relation to a stealing matter.

Oakenden mum Michelle Emerson was at the Bluewater Lagoon with her two sons when she saw about 10 police officers rush in.

“We were just sitting there minding our own business when police pulled up at the lagoon,” Mrs Emerson said.

“Next minute, I saw the police rush into the lagoon and they took them away.

“I said, ‘That was a bit of excitement’ to the boys.”
