THE Sunshine Coast is in the midst of a huge clean-up after a severe storm with winds up to 70km/h tore through the region.

Hundred-year-old trees were uprooted, crops were destroyed, roofs were severely damaged and thousands of windscreens were shattered as the ball-sized hail rained down on the Coast.

The RACQ said it had received more than 600 claims by this morning for hail damage, with that figure expected to increase.
