Bull miraculously survives near-fatal lightning strike
A DETERMINED bull has miraculously defied the odds - and a stunning surge of electricity - to walk away from a lightning bolt that killed its mate.
Kev Ryan was sitting on the veranda of his Cottonvale property with wife Diane, when mother nature decided to put on a lightning show.
Mr Ryan said it wasn't any ordinary lightning however, as last week's storm made its way closer and closer to his house.
"Massive strikes of lightning were going straight to the ground," Mr Ryan said.
"One struck the back of the pool, and lit everything up.
"I had never seen anything like this. We're lucky.
"All the animals were frightened."
With livestock in the surrounds of the property, the conditions created a tumultuous time for them, including a full grown bull and a half-grown steer.
"There was 17 in the mob, and it struck two of them," he said.
"They were standing side by side, and were hit with the same strike.
"After it hit they went down, and they were both just flat out on the ground."
With nothing he could do but look on, Mr Ryan said he had feared the worst, before a minor miracle happened.
"It took about 90 seconds, and then the bull got up," he said.
"It rained for about 10 minutes after the lightning.
"After it stopped I went and checked on the steer, and the hair was burnt off the side of his legs."
"It wasn't just hitting here.
"The lightning struck something beside the highway and lit it up.
"It's something you never see.
"Others thought it was going to rip their houses apart."
