Nitro funny cars provide Ipswich spectacle

WHAT a night last Saturday, with the Aeroflow Outlaw Nitro Funny Cars putting on a spectacular display.

It was an evening filled with Nitro. Quick side by side passes and some amazing runs from the two-wheel standing funny car, which went down the entire track on only two wheels.

As part of the awesome entertainment, we also got to see some spectacular shows from Ben Bray in his Century Batteries burnout car, and the Aussie FMX freestyle motocross riders.

A lucky winner got a ride in Benny Bray's car. I was jealous.

At Queensland Raceway, there were more than 140 cars contesting the Queensland Racing Drivers Championships.

Although there was some amazing racing across the categories, the Formula Ford was the standout.

It had a seven car battle for the lead with Hunter McElrea coming out on top.

If the racing on the weekend in the Formula Ford is an indication of the talent in Queensland motorsport, then the future looks bright.

The Trans AMs were brilliant with Charlie O'Brien showing his class.

This weekend at Willowbank features the Diesel Assault tonight, followed by my favourite Lights Out Grudge Racing tomorrow.

Who doesn't love the opportunity to get down on the start line and feel the energy of some amazing cars.

Queensland Raceway kicks off the weekend with its popular Friday Night Drifts.

The drifters love the Friday night format, which attracts lots of spectators.

Tomorrow is Powerplay, the one-day powercruise.

Imagine Powercruise packed into one day and you have got powerplay.

It's wall to wall action. Whilst there is not as many cars as powercruise, it's still a great day out and some great cars get along too it so it will be worth you checking it out.

The following weekend will be another big one at the precinct.

At Willowbank Raceway, we have the Queensland Drag Racing Championship and at Queensland Raceway the Japanese Nationals.

More details on these events in next week's column.
