New Lockyer Valley election details released
FOR electors in the local government district of Lockyer Valley, the mayoral and councillor election proceedings must start again and a new polling day has been set down for Saturday, 16 April 2016.
The Deputy Premier, Jackie Trad, yesterday announced the postponement of both Mayoral and Councilor elections for Lockyer Valley and determined that the elections would be administered by full postal ballot.
The Commission will now turn to making arrangements for the new date. This week, electors can expect to receive the Voter Information Letter in the mail which will also include the referendum arguments. Lockyer Valley electors will also receive a letter from the Electoral Commissioner explaining the current situation.
Ballot material for the local government elections will be automatically issued to Lockyer Valley electors shortly after close of candidate nominations on Tuesday, 29 March.
The Electoral Commissioner, Walter van der Merwe, stressed that Lockyer Valley electors are still required to vote in the Referendum on Saturday, 19 March. "Despite the local government elections being postponed, the vote for the Referendum will go ahead as planned across the State."
Notice of the Election for the Lockyer Valley Regional Council will be published on Saturday, 19 March 2016 with nominations opening the same day.
Lockyer Valley Regional Council is an undivided council and has 24,213 electors. A mayor and six councilors will be elected to office on 16 April 2016.
