Naidoc cricket contest a hit
A RAIN delayed Naidoc Cricket Cup turned out to be a run-feast and a great sign of things to come for organisers.
The "One Mob" team put on a great chase to defeat the Souths Diamondbacks at the Ipswich PCYC cricket field recently, in a game featuring all local Aboriginal players.
Organiser Jonothan Meuller said the game was the centrepiece of the anti-domestic violence campaign and fun Indigenous activities, including dancing, story telling and craft.
"This is an event we hope will coincide with Naidoc Week next year," he said.
"Families travel across south-east Queensland during Naidoc Week to visit specific events during the five days."
Mayor Paul Pisasale bowled the first ball of the day, getting the two 15-over matches underway. Ipswich State High School students featured, with an Indigenous dance performance.
