Multimillion-dollar deal sees off 33-year business

A PRIVATE developer has snapped up the former home of a business running for more than 30 years.

The former Maroochy Auto Wreckers site at 580 Maroochydore Road, Kunda Park, was picked up for $2.425 million.

CBRE’s Glen Grimish and Brendan Robins completed the sale of the 5972sq m site.

They said they believed it to be a record sale price for the Maroochydore Road strip in Kunda Park.

The sale came after CBRE had managed to negotiate two other vacant land sales on behalf of Boral in late-2018.

Each of those 4000sq m sites sold at a rate of $330 per square metre, plus GST.

Maroochy Auto Wreckers ceased trading on July 31, having dismantled more than 5000 cars since the business started in 1986.

“The buyer of the Maroochydore Road property is now seeking expressions of interest from tenants, with areas available to lease from 200sqm up to 3000sq m,” Mr Robins said.

“We expect there will be strong demand from businesses who require profile and exposure, that are seeking to be located among other big brands in Kunda Park.”

Mr Grimish said the Maroochydore Rd stretch had evolved from what was essentially a dirt track when Maroochy Auto Wreckers bought the site, to become a major arterial route.

“Our belief is that the zoning along Maroochydore Road through Kunda Park will evolve in future to accommodate higher uses, which reflect how this road has transformed over the past 35 years,” Mr Grimish said.

The site at 580 Maroochydore Road was currently zoned for medium impact industry.
