Mitchell hit set to cost Lions star one-game ban

BRISBANE Lions midfielder Tom Rockliff is likely to miss Sunday's home game against Geelong after being hit with a level two rough conduct charge by the match review panel yesterday.

The MRP decided the first-quarter incident with Hawthorn star Sam Mitchell involved intentional body contact, but was low impact. The offence carries a two-match suspension but Rockliff (pictured) can accept one game on the sidelines with an early guilty plea.

West Coast midfielder Sharrod Wellingham was the only other player charged after the weekend's games. He was hit with a level one tripping offence for an incident involving Bulldogs defender Jason Johannisen in Sunday's game at Patersons Stadium.

Wellingham will be free to play against Melbourne at the MCG on Sunday with an early guilty plea.

Sydney Swans coach John Longmire yesterday re-signed with the club until the end of the 2017 season.
