Man dies more than week on from horror Bruce Hwy smash

A MAN who had to be cut from his car after it crashed into a tree just off the Bruce Hwy last week has died in hospital.

The 19-year-old from Brisbane succumbed to his injuries last night.

His car was travelling south through Bells Creek about 6.45am on Monday March 24 when it left the highway and crashed into a tree.

It took emergency services more than two hours to free him from the wreckage.

The southbound lanes of the highway were closed for three hours.

He was eventually airlifted by the RACQ CareFlight Rescue Helicopter to Royal Brisbane and Women's Hospital in a critical condition from multiple injuries.
