Man accused of threatening woman with hatchet on CBD street

Update, Monday 3.25pm:

A BEACONSFIELD man is expected to apply for bail tomorrow after allegedly producing a black handled hatchet and threatening to kill a woman.

Justin James Carrick, 23, appeared in Mackay Magistrates Court this morning.

Defence solicitor Antoinette Morton said that as Carrick was under the care of an adult guardian, she would need to speak to them before proceeding with a bail application.

The matter was adjourned to tomorrow. Carrick remains in custody.

He is charged with going armed so as to cause fear, threatening violence at night, possessing a knife in public and unlawful possession of restricted drugs.

A 23-YEAR-OLD Beaconsfield man has been arrested after an incident on August 14.

Police allege the man was walking on Victoria St when he has approached a man and woman walking on the footpath about 12.05am.

He has allegedly produced a black handled hatchet and threatened to kill the female who ran away as a result.

The female located officers patrolling the CBD and informed them of the incident.

It's further alleged that the man was then found walking on Victoria St by officers carrying a black backpack.

During a conversation with officers, a hatchet, shears and a screwdriver were found after a search of the backpack.

The 23-year-old was arrested and has been charged with threatening violence, unlawful possession of restricted drugs, going armed to cause fear and unlawful possession of a knife in a public place.

He will appear in the Mackay Magistrates Court this morning to have these charges heard.
