Luxurious hotel lift falls with employee inside

AN EMPLOYEE at a luxurious Sunshine Coast resort was rushed to hospital after a lift he was travelling in fell beyond its stopping point.

The man in his 30s was rescued from a lift at Sofitel Noosa Pacific Resort on Sunday after it fell suddenly because of a technical fault about 8pm.

A spokesperson for the Hastings St resort said the incident was a malfunction and their staff member was taken to hospital as a precaution.

"The lift was travelling at normal speed and travelled beyond its stopping point on the ground floor. The lift's safety mechanism immediately activated," the spokesperson said.

"The safety of our guests and employees is paramount and the lift in question was assessed by Work Health and Safety Queensland and was deemed safe to operate as normal the following day."

The man suffered neck and back pain but has since been released from Sunshine Coast University Hospital.
