Local derby provides extra challenges

TONIGHT'S local derby could be a battle of attrition in more ways than one.

With Western Spirit and the Ipswich City Bulls both managing heavy injury tolls, the latest Capital League 1 duel could showcase some entertaining new faces.

The main game is at 6pm at Kippen Park after the Reserves clash at 4pm.

The Bulls top side is in seventh place, three points out of third spot, with five wins, a draw and four losses.

Spirit, who won the scheduled first-round local derby 2-0, are in 10th place with three wins and six losses.

They need to tame the Bulls again to keep pace with the top cluster of title contenders.

Bulls head coach Norbert Duga and Spirit mentor Matt Raub have struggled to field full-strength teams this season due to injuries and player unavailability.

However, both teams have displayed patches of their best, setting up an intriguing contest tonight.

The Ipswich Knights continue their rebuilding Football Queensland Premier League season hosting Holland Park at Bundamba tomorrow afternoon.
