Local couture wedding designer goes global
A WHITSUNDAY couture wedding designer has been selected to design and make the gown for Miss Great Britain Joanna Hill who is entering the Miss Global 2013 Pageant to be held in Los Angeles in August.
Kim Harris is the owner and designer of Kim Marcel Art of Couture which specialises in high end made-to-measure designer bridal gowns as well as evening gowns, bridesmaids dresses right through to alterations.
Ms Harris has more than 20 years of design experience working in the bridal industry, starting her career specialising in European techniques at the famous Paris fashion school Esmod.
After spending a number of years on the Gold Coast, Ms Harris decided to move her bridal couture business to the Whitsundays after she identified a void in the market for made-to-measure designers.
"It's an absolute pleasure to provide this service to the local brides-to-be and women who require that special gown for that special event," she said.
"I know a lot of the local girls have previously travelled to Brisbane, Sydney and as far as Melbourne to get the same quality and service."
On her official Facebook page, Miss Great Britain Joanna Hill said she wanted to personally thank Kim Marcel Art of Couture for accepting the role of designing her pageant dress on Wednesday, May 1.
Miss Harris said she already had a few ideas but was keen to see her new muse in person.
"I am really looking forward to meeting with Joanna next week and getting a sense of her personality so I can design a dress that will suit her body and character," she said.
"I offer a personalised, made-to-measure service so women can come to me with an image or an idea and I can create the gown of their dreams for the event of their life."
Ms Hill also confirmed this week that she will make a special guest appearance on the catwalk for the Kim Marcel Art of Couture fashion show which will be held at the Reef Gateway Hotel's Wedding Expo in June.
