'Lemons' cars try to survive having fun at Qld Raceway
THIS weekend at Queensland Raceway is the 24 Hours of Lemons.
The Lemons cars will compete in 24 hours of track time to see who can survive.
The catch is that the car must be less than $999 or a real 'lemon'.
These events are hilariously popular with most of the teams dressing up in a light-hearted, fun-filled weekend.
Among the 35 teams are the BMW Diet Joke racing and Winefueled Skyline, that has a wine barrel on the roof.
Look out for other crazy themes.
Meanwhile, it was a big day at Queensland Raceway last weekend with a few hundred people trying the V8 Race Experience.
After the V8 Race, the Ipswich Street sprints started with about 80 cars.
That was as big as I have seen it over the past few years. There was some diversity from Toyota 86's to Porsche and a magnificent looking corvette gracing the track.
Sunday was another popular Moto Ride day with about 100 bikes on circuit.
There's not a lot happening on the Willowbank Raceway dragstrip during the next two weeks as they prepare for their biggest event of the year - the City of Ipswich Winternationals.
I have purchased my grandstand reserved seats and I am really looking forward to watching Victor Bray make a comeback. He is my all-time favourite racer.
There's also great news for Ipswich driver Ash Walsh, who has secured a co-driver role in the V8 Supercars for Brad Jones Racing's Time Slade. Walsh will be in a real competitive run at Bathurst in October.
