Lamborghini lights up Queensland Raceway ahead of Bathurst

I WAS lucky enough to skip away from work on Monday to catch a glimpse of the new Roger Lago Lamborghini built by Reiter Engineering in Germany.

It will compete in the Bathurst 12-hour in February against the world's best GT racers, and Bathurst ace Steve Owen was driving it around Queensland Raceway in preparation.

From the look of how hard it goes, I think it will be a serious contender in the other big race across the Mountain.

I was sorry to hear this week that Ipswich's Ash Walsh missed out on a V8 Supercar drive this year, after falling victim to the Erebus Racing seat shuffle following a tough year in 2015.

The good news is that Ash will be driving again this year for the highly-rated Sonic team in the Australian Carrera Cup Championship.

I love to see our local drivers in action, so the Speed family will be keeping a close eye on his fortunes this year.

So what is coming up for Johnny Speed this week?

Tonight I will be heading out to the Friday Night Drifts at Queensland Raceway once again.

I can't get enough of these events.

They are always a great night out and there will be some new cars making their debut.

With the Australian Drift Grand Prix in February fast approaching, I hear there will be a few Grand Prix entrants out there doing some testing.

I really hope that these rumours are true, as these guys are Australia's Top Drifters.

Come Saturday it will be time for some general practice at Queensland Raceway.

This is the first one of the year so it is bound to be hosting a lot of new cars as competitors get ready for the 2016 racing season.

I also had my name down to take part in the Officials Training and Expo Day at Queensland Raceway, but that event has now been shifted to February 28.

If you have ever wanted to try being a motorsport official, call up the circuit and get your name down for this expo.

It doesn't cost you anything and there will be some seriously cool stuff going on like putting out car fires, cutting the tops of vehicles in rescue simulations and more.

On Saturday night there will be a very special Test 'n' Tune on at the Willowbank Raceway drag strip.

This one is all about the armed forces, with the track wanting to say a special thank you to all of our defence members.

What this means is that anyone with a defence force ID and a printed and completed flyer from the track's Facebook page can come along on Saturday and either race or watch for free.

I can't wait to get along to this event and see our valued army, air force and navy members enjoying themselves at the track.

Speaking of theme nights, last weekend's GM-themed Test 'n' Tune was a great success.

Some of the General's finest machinery lined up at the start lights at Queensland Raceway.

As we get closer to the start of the competitive season at the drag strip (the Street Series starts January 30), expect to see plenty of serious competitors bringing their cars out for a test run at the Test 'n' Tunes over the coming weeks.

On Sunday, it will be all about two-wheeled action for me, with the QR Moto Ride Day.

The last time I went out for one of these, Mike Jones was there on the new Ducati that he will race as a wildcard entry in the World Superbikes event at Phillip Island.

You just never know who you might see out at the track so it is always a good idea to get along to these events.

There is also plenty of action happening in the karting world, with the Ipswich Kart Club undergoing some upgrades on their lighting at the moment.

The club has also announced their 2016 race calendar, including a round of the Australiana Karting Championships across July 1-3, and its first race meeting of the year on January 30.
