Knights keeping cool as chase first BPL win at home

PLAYING in cooler Sunday night conditions will help the Ipswich Knights as they face a rising force in the Brisbane Premier League competition.

The Knights are chasing their first win of the season at home this weekend when they take on Souths United at Bundamba.

After two hard-fought draws, the Knights are keen to build on their solid foundation against opponents who have climbed quickly from Capital League 2 to BPL in recent seasons.

"I'm aware of some of the players that they've recruited so they look like they've been busy preparing themselves for their re-introduction to the BPL,'' co-coach Danny Wilson said.

"They'll be a challenge for us but I'm pretty confident in our ability.''

Wilson and co-coach Graham Ross were yet to name a side for the match.

However, they were encouraged to see key players Devon Munn and Dale Robinson training through the week after suffering hamstring injuries.

Attacking weapon Brodie Kenyon also returns from suspension for the 6pm clash at Eric Evans Reserve.

At this time of the year, Wilson welcomes Sunday night football, especially after some recent Silver Boot pre-season games in the same timeslot.

"It's more the conditions are not ideal to play during the day time,'' he said.

"Even for our Reserve grade kickoff and whatnot, it's to get the kickoff back in the cooler conditions to make sure we can go out there and play that high intensity type football we'd like to play.

"It's all about getting the preparation right.''

The Knights also have their first FFA Cup match on Wednesday night.

They play top four BPL side Holland Park Hawks away.
