
Gotye, Kimbra score big at ARIAs for second year in a row
GOTYE and Kimbra have won top honours for the second year in a row at the 2012 ARIA Awards, which was held at the Sydney Entertainment Centre and featured many national and international stars.
Melbourne-based artist Gotye claimed 4 ARIA Awards, including Album of the Year for 'Making Mirrors'.
He also grabbed the publicly-voted Best Australian Live Act, as well as Best Male Artist and Best Pop Release, which were both awards he won last year.
Another Melbourne-based act The Temper Trap took home the ARIA award for Best Rock Album for their self-titled record.
They also won Best Group, which is an award they won in 2010.
New Zealand's Kimbra secured her Australian status as the top female artist by winning Best Female for her debut album 'Vows'.
Hip-hop newcomer 360 won the Breakthrough Artist Release Award and legends Hilltop Hoods took home the Best Urban Album award for the third time.
ARIA favourite Missy Higgins added another award to her collection with Best Adult Contemporary Album for 'The Ol' Razzle Dazzle'.
She also picked up the publicly-voted Best Video Award for her hit single 'Everyone's Waiting'.
Best Independent Release went to indie favourites The Jezabels for their debut album 'Prisoner'.
The publicly-voted award for ARIA Song of the Year went to Matt Corby for his smash hit 'Brother' while pop sensations One Direction took home the Best International Artist Award.

Timomatic and Justice Crew kicked off the show with high energy, and Jessica Mauboy followed with a medley of songs off the chart-topping 'The Sapphires' soundtrack.
Hilltop Hoods also brought down the house with their performance of 'I Love It', followed by Guy Sebastian and surprise guest Lupe Fiasco with a performance of their record-breaking 'Battle Scars'.
Multiple Grammy Award winner and the night's biggest international guest Taylor Swift performed her hit 'Trouble'.
The highlight of the night was when Australian music icons Yothu Yindi were inducted into the ARIA Hall of Fame by Paul Kelly and former Midnight Oil frontman and current Minister for Education Peter Garrett.
They were joined on stage by Andrew Farriss, Dan Sultan, and Jessica Mauboy for a moving tribute to their international hit 'Treaty'.
Missy Higgins also took to the stage to perform 'Everyone's Waiting', and The Jezabels rocked the stage with their rendition of 'Endless Summer'.
360 was joined on stage by Gossling to perform their multiplatinum hit 'Boys Like You'.
Kimbra gave an outstanding performance of 'Settle Down', and The Temper Trap closed the night with 'Trembling Hands'.
