Kane safely works his way to podium finish at Superprix meet

IPSWICH racer Darren Kane heads to tomorrow night's Queensland Super Sedan Series round full of confidence after securing a podium finish last weekend.

Kane finished third in last Saturday night's $10,000 Superprix for super sedans at Sydney's Valvoline Raceway.

In the first trip of the season to Valvoline Raceway for the Ian Boettcher Race Parts Racing team, the Qld # 36 Ian Boettcher Race Parts supported Dominator driver (pictured) managed a commendable finish in the tough 40-lap feature race.

After qualifying on the fourth row of the feature race, Kane worked his way into a podium spot by the middle stages of the race.

"With the benefit of hindsight, I played it a bit too safe in the early stages of the race by allowing the pack to settle down," Kane said.

"It was the type of track where passing was difficult, so you needed to make your passes as quickly as possible, and I wasn't able to do that. But considering where I came from in the field, I was pleased with a podium finish."

Kane had earlier finished his two heat races in third and sixth place respectively. He finished fourth in the B Dash, giving him a position eight starting spot for the feature race.

Elsewhere, Andrew Scheuerle endured a mixed night in the fourth round of the Ultimate Sprintcar Championship Qld at Toowoomba's speedway.

The Qld # 25 Ian Boettcher Race Parts backed Cool driver was running in podium contention during the feature race before being forced out with mechanical woes on lap 16.

Prior to the feature race, Scheuerle had set the quickest lap in time trials and finished inside the top three of both of his heat races.

Heading into the pole shuffle, Scheuerle was the highest point scorer. He took on Peter Lack for the right to start the feature race from pole position. However, it didn't go according to plan for Scheuerle, after he was pinned for jumping the start by the chief steward and consequently disqualified, which put him out of position two for the feature race.

Tomorrow night, Kane will contest the latest Queensland Super Sedan Series round at Rockhampton Speedway in what will be his only run at the track prior to this season's Australian title in late March.

On the same night, Scheuerle is contesting the latest Archerfield Speedway 410 Sprintcar Track Championship round.
