Join local MPs for clean up
MEMBER for Ipswich West Jim Madden and member for Ipswich Jennifer Howard are urging locals to roll up their sleeves and get stuck into cleaning up parks, bushlands, streets and waterways across Ipswich and the Brisbane Valley this Sunday for Clean Up Australia Day.
Ms Howard will be joining with Cr Andrew Antoniolli at the drain off Whitehill Rd, Raceview, from 7.30-9.30am to begin the effort.
"Speaking for myself and my electorate of Ipswich, I can honestly say that there is a lot of local pride in our community and I see that on all levels, however, rubbish and litter is still prevalent and we can't just close our eyes saying, that's someone else's problem," she said.
"Ipswich is a wonderful community and I encourage all of its citizens to pull on their working boots and help make our community that little bit more beautiful."
Mr Madden said everyone had a role to play in protecting Queensland's unique ecosystems, including landscapes and waterways.
"We are incredibly fortunate to have access to a fantastic mix of parks, bushland, rivers and streams," Mr Madden said.
"It's important that we work as hard as possible to preserve them so that future generations can enjoy them as we have.
"Last year we had a huge response from the community across Ipswich West, with families, community groups, and residents all getting out early to clean up.
"This year, I'll be joining with my partner Nicole in Fernvale and Lowood. We'll be meeting at 7 Clockwork Street at 6am this Sunday."
