Ipswich's celebration laced with BPL drama
IT was the extra celebration that made the difference. But the added excitement also yielded a yellow card for one of the Ipswich Knights goal scorers in this afternoon's spirited 3-1 Brisbane Premier League victory over Easts.
In front of a larger than usual crowd sharing in a Coalstars reunion, Knights defender Devon Munn received a warning for his antics after scoring Ipswich's decisive second goal after halftime.
It was Munn's first goal of the season and one he clearly enjoyed.
Munn ran over to the sideline in front of the Knights hill and celebrated in a manner the referee answered with a yellow card.
Munn's outburst of emotion came after Emmanuel Peter had put the Ipswich combination 1-0 ahead in the first half.
The Knights' match winner came just before full-time when striker Peter Drager took on the Easts' goalkeeper and slotted home the goal.
Drager also ran over to the Ipswich supporters at the fence, celebrating his goal with the fans. Thankfully, he escaped any sanction.
The Knights win was just reward for another committed effort, highlighted by goalkeeper Declan Murphy who saved a penalty and made some fantastic close-range blocks at key times in the game.
The Knights players wore a blue and white strip with red socks, honouring traditions of the former Coalstars club that merged with St Helens in 1997 to form the Ipswich Knights.
BPL: Ipswich Knights 3 (Emmanuel Peter, Devon Munn, Peter Drager) def Easts 1. Reserves: Easts 2 d Knights 1 (Chris Scott).
