THE Ipswich girls under 18 basketball team exceeded everyone's expectations at last week's Division 2 state titles, held in Ipswich.
That includes themselves and their coach, Julie George.
Ipswich topped its pool then lost its semi-final by just one point, going down 56-55 to eventual runners-up Brisbane Capitals, before claiming the bronze medal.
George admitted she was surprised by how well her team, featuring three under 13 players, performed throughout the tournament.
"Absolutely, she said.
"Both in their capability and commitment to the games and their plays.
"They delivered 100 percent every time they took the court."
Of the three 13-year-olds, small forward Gillian Togia greatly impressed the coach, along with Force defender Jessica Dau and captain Cambridge McCormick.
"Jessie was by far the most outstanding defensive player and most committed player of the tournament. Cambridge is a very talented player," George said.
The team now returns its attention to the QJBC competition, in which it sits third.
"We're aiming to win that," George said.
