There's only weeks so before we head to the polls in an historic election and plenty of people have declared their intention to run in the next Ipswich City Council Local Government election on March 28.

Since the first candidates put up their hands more than six months ago, we have been keeping track of who hopes to win your vote.

CHRIS SMITH

Magazine editor and publisher Chris Smith is one of the newest candidates to nominate for the top job.

He said he thought "it was about time someone ran without an agenda to gain power".

KARAKAN KOCHARDY

The seventh candidate to join the race for mayor claims to be a former Ipswich City Councillor ambassador, language teacher, health guru and a gold medallist swordsman.

Karakan Kochardy submitted his nomination to run for mayor just minutes before deadline.

Mrs Knopke, who is running as an independent, has lived in Ipswich her whole life, growing up in Redbank Plains, living in Dinmore and finally settling down in Springfield Lakes.

Bellbird Park resident Paul Modra will be contesting the seat for Division 2 in the upcoming Ipswich City Council election.

The small business owner has lived in Ipswich for more than 38 years with his wife and four children.

DREW PICKWICK

Collingwood Park resident Drew Pickwick has announced his candidacy for Division 3 in the upcoming Ipswich City Council election.

The 26-year-old is running as an independent and is the youngest candidate vying for a Division 3 seat.

Mr Pickwick said he would offer a fresh perspective and voice for the young families.

ANDREW FECHNER

A YOUNG council candidate is pleading for residents to vote in "young blood" this month, believing Ipswich won't change for the better without a fresh, youthful perspective.

Council candidate's plan to smash Ipswich's 'stigma'

HE IS well aware of the magnitude of the job that lay ahead, as well as the sheer number of people for whom he will be advocating, but Russell Milligan believes he is the right man for the job.

Roads and regional residents a priority for new candidate

It's the third time Mr Scott has run but he said he was adamant he could bring the necessary skills and knowledge to the role.

Disability support worker runs for division 4.

Mr Blake, who was in the defence force, decided to run as a Division 4 councillor because he wanted to give back to the community.
