Ipswich accident blackspots on minister's agenda today

TRANSPORT and Main Roads Minister Mark Bailey is on tour in Ipswich today to examine key pieces of infrastructure that need upgrading.

Mr Bailey and Ipswich West MP Jim Madden will inspect the sites, with the Minden Crossroads first on the list.

"I want the safety at this interchange improved, with longer slow down lanes and longer speed up lanes," Mr Madden said.

The duo will then venture to the Mt Crosby/ Warrego Hwy Interchange.

"I want the slow down lanes on both sides of the highway lengthened and the roundabouts redesigned and enlarged to cope with the increased traffic travelling through them each day," Mr Madden said.

Next stop is the Amberley Interchange.

"Design work has been done and the cost of the project is estimated at over $350 million. This would require joint funding from the State and Federal governments," Mr Madden said.

The Minister is also having a look at the Walloon Tree at the Walloon roundabout that has been designated as a safety hazard by TMR staff and marked for removal.
