OPINION: Howard a great choice in Cabinet
IPSWICH MP Jennifer Howard richly deserves her elevation to Cabinet.
Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk certainly pulled the right rein by promoting Ms Howard to be Assistant Minister for Local Government in her Cabinet reshuffle.
Ms Howard's long held interest in local government aside, the Ipswich MP has a close working relationship with local councillors on the ground in Ipswich and has made a positive impression in her short time in parliament with her consultative approach.
I have had the pleasure of dealing with Ms Howard in various roles she has had in Ipswich over the past five years and what stands out is her commitment to enhancing the quality of life in the local community.
Ms Howard has a vast understanding of what cities like Ipswich need in a social and cultural sense and is well aware of the need for key infrastructure to be delivered to promote jobs and economic growth.
She will no doubt apply the wisdom she has gleaned on that front in her interactions with councils across the state. It is vital for Ipswich to have a voice in the Cabinet and Ms Howard will deliver on that score.
While Ms Howard has a warm personality she is no soft touch by any means. But her capacity to listen to the needs of individuals and stakeholders across the board, and act accordingly, will ensure she has a long career in politics.
