Goodna's home crowd support vital in Cup final
UPBEAT Goodna Gladiators hooker Andrew Tapuai is hoping his team's loyal supporters provide a winning advantage in tomorrow's Barber Cup mid-season final.
The stand-in skipper said the Gladiators enjoy playing at Evan Marginson Oval and that will be important in the President's Cup rugby final against Pine Rivers.
"It's unbelievable. We always have a lot of people supporting,'' Tapuai said, excited about the 3pm clash at Goodna.
"That helps with the game and also helps the boys.''
Tomorrow's final also counts for points, setting up an important battle in Ipswich.
Pine Rivers won 15-10 at their home field the last time the sides met.
Tapuai said the Gladiators had already worked on a strategy to counter Pine Rivers after seeing the way they play.
"This time, we're actually letting the ball go, let the ball do all the work,'' he said.
"After seeing Pine Rivers spread the ball wide, that's something we can do better.''
After a week off from fixtures following a 33-17 win over Caboolture, Tapuai said the Gladiators were ready to see what they can achieve against Pine Rivers.
"We still had training. We stayed active,'' he said, expecting Goodna to field a strong combination tomorrow.
"Everyone is looking good this week.
"I'm really happy how the boys are going this year.
'It's been going pretty good for us.''
Since the President's Cup teams were decided last month, Wynnum moved to top spot after beating Pine Rivers.
Goodna are just two points behind in third.
Heading into the mid-season final, Goodna have four wins, one draw and one loss.
In tomorrow's other regional Barber Cup match, the Ipswich Rangers travel to Caboolture.
