First step towards construction of new Toowoomba Coles

THE first step has been taken towards the construction of Toowoomba's newest Coles supermarket in the western suburbs.

Applications for the installation of key infrastructure at the site of the new Coles on Greenwattle St in Glenvale were submitted to the Toowoomba Regional Council this week.

The application was done by civil engineers Bornhorst and Ward in conjunction with Coles Group Property Developments.

The lead contractor for the project is believed to be Lanskey Constructions.

It comes about six months after Coles upgraded its plans for the new supermarket, expanding it to cater for the growth of Glenvale and the surrounding suburbs.

Instead of being built over three stages as originally planned, the centre will now be completed in just two and include a full-sized supermarket and bottle shop.

"Since the time of the approval in early 2017, Coles has undertaken a market analysis of the local catchment area and have determined that there is sufficient demand in the area to warrant the construction of a full-size Coles supermarket, as part of the initial stage of development as opposed to extensions being undertaken as part of stage two of the development," the planning report said.

Coles also revealed the new store would include a click and collect service for customers.

"Click&Collect will allow residents in Toowoomba's west to order their groceries online and have them delivered to their car boot at a dedicated Click&Collect carpark," a spokeswoman said in October.
