Firefighters fix fuel station leak
FIREFIGHTERS were called to the Freedom Fuels service station at West Ipswich following a gas leak this morning.
Staff reported the constant, slow liquid petroleum gas leak coming from pipes near a large storage tank at the back of the site, at about 10am.
Customers were cleared out and the entry and exit points blocked off as a safety precaution, although only a small amount of gas was escaping through the pipes.
The service station, on the corner of Brisbane and Tiger Sts, remained closed while gas company workmen were called to repair the leak.
The problem was fixed and the business reopened within half an hour.
Firefighters said service station staff took the correct precautions and there was never a risk of explosion.
