EXPOSED: The Coast crimes done in the nude
From a naked P-plater who was caught drink driving after he was kicked out of a convenience store to a man who swam across Cornmeal Creek naked, here are eight Sunshine Coasters who showed far too much of themselves.
Plaza skinny-dipper arrested after racing cars on foot
A man who swam across the creek in front of Sunshine Plaza naked and tried to race a car on foot has faced court.
Timothy Ian Matthews, 36, had been partying on Ocean St before he decided to take a dip at the Maroochydore shopping precinct at about 3am on August 2, last year.
A security guard saw Matthews take off his clothes and swim across the river near Horton Pde before running in and out of traffic naked.
"The defendant then swam across to the southern side of the river again and as he came out of the river he tried to race a car on foot," police prosecutor Leonie Scott said.
"At the time police approached he had his genitals out and exposed to the public as he tried to put his clothes back on."
Matthews was arrested.
He pleaded guilty at Maroochydore Magistrates Court to public nuisance and chose not to offer an explanation when addressed by Magistrate Rod Madsen.
Mr Madsen gave Matthews a $600 fine and the conviction was recorded.
Semi-naked drunk woman in Aussie World 'lesbian cyborg' rant
Children were present when a drunk woman at an amusement park stripped off and punched a security guard, then assaulted a female police officer and called her a "lesbian cyborg".
Police were called to control Priscilla Marie Butler, 36, after she refused to leave the Aussie World pub in April, last year.
Caloundra Magistrates Court heard she had "exposed herself" with families and children in the room.
It heard Butler "turned on" a security guard as he attempted to evict her, punching him five or six times in the head.
Police prosecutor Senior Constable Amanda Brewer said when police arrived Butler was on the road with her pants down and "abusing anyone near her".
Ms Brewer said she abused a female police officer saying, "you can get f-----, you lesbian cyborg" and struck her in the chest.
Magistrate Haydn Stjernqvist sentenced Butler to 40 hours community service and fined her $1800.
No conviction was recorded.
Naked man nabbed police car
A man who led police on a 20-hour car chase across the Gold Coast was naked when he stole a police vehicle from a crash scene six years earlier, a court was told.
Cameron Scott Noad, 32, also threatened a shop attendant with a screw driver in an attempt to get a free pizza.
Noad pleaded guilty in the Southport District Court to eight charges including attempted robbery, stealing, unlawful use of a motor vehicle and wilful exposure.
Crown prosecutor Jessica Guy told the court Noad was seen naked at a crash scene in Maroochydore on the Sunshine Coast on November 30, 2013.
She said Noad jumped into the driver's seat and when police tried to get him he told them to "f--- you, pig".
Ms Guy said Noad drove off and later crashed the car. He then ran into a restaurant still naked.
Three years later, on May 18, 2016, Noad was near the Broadbeach Pizza Hut when he threatened a worker if he did not give him pizza.
"He pulled out a screw driver and threatened to put it thorough his eye and then pulled out pliers and said he was 'not f***ing around'," Ms Guy said.
Noad was sentenced him to two-and-a-half years in prison with immediate parole release.
Half-naked man jailed for flashing bum at magistrate
A man was jailed for contempt after he repeatedly flashed his bum to a Coast magistrate during a bizarre court appearance.
Aaron Jaye Laidlaw appeared in Maroochydore Magistrates Court naked from the waist up via video link from the watchhouse on other charges.
Mr Laidlaw persistently interrupted Magistrate Rod Madsen during his appearance with strange musings, including asking Mr Madsen if he knew what Facebook was and telling him he should "get on it".
Mr Laidlaw then told the court, "I'll keep interrupting you until you get me out of here".
The video link was quickly terminated when Mr Laidlaw pulled down his pants and presented his buttocks to the court on August 8, 2018.
He pleaded guilty to contempt of court.
Mr Madsen ordered Mr Laidlaw to serve six months in jail for the offence with parole release after serving two months.
Naked, unconscious teen found in stranger's yard
A distressed woman called police to her family home after finding a naked, unconscious teenager in her backyard.
Cody Lee Sutton-Chambers, 19, had passed out on an air mattress in the yard of the Maroochydore home after taking a "cocktail" of drugs.
Police prosecutor Amanda Brewer said police arrived at the address to find a "distressed" family who were scared to enter their home on the morning of January 16.
"They located the male fully unclothed, attempting to open a window to the dwelling," Senior Constable Brewer said.
"He appeared drug affected and was not making any sense when he was trying to explain why he was naked as well as being present at the dwelling, claiming that he lived there."
At Maroochydore Magistrates Court Sutton-Chambers pleaded guilty to one charge of trespassing.
Sutton-Chambers was fined $500.
The conviction was not recorded.
Naked woman runs from police, pees on road
A naked woman had to be dressed by police after she ran around a carpark drunk and urinated on the road.
Residents in nearby homes watched as Joanne Claire Thege, 44, lay on the ground after her dramatic antics on July 18, last year and saw her re-dressed by police.
Hours later, Thege verbally abused her neighbour and bashed on their front door until police arrested her.
The episode came two days after she yelled and swore at her Parrearra neighbours while banging on interior walls.
Thege, who pleaded guilty at Maroochydore Magistrates Court to public nuisance, said she had given up drinking and was determined to get sober.
Thege was sentenced to six months on probation with no conviction recorded.
'Erratic' teen fined for headbutting cop car while naked
A teenager has been slapped with a $3100 bill and a $150 fine after headbutting a police car.
Police were called to Mountain Creek after receiving reports that a naked man was trying to fight in the street.
Police prosecutor Stu Lydford said a naked Harrison Isaac Lancaster-Byrne, 18, began sprinting towards the police car as officers were getting out on June 12.
"He headbutted the front of the vehicle, causing damage," Sgt Lydford said.
"Police arrested him and he was erratic and uncontrollable.
"They identified that he was clearly under the influence of a substance that wasn't alcohol."
Sgt Lydford said the police car required $3116.40 worth of repairs.
At Maroochydore Magistrates Court, Lancaster-Byrne pleaded guilty to wilfully damaging police property.
He was fined $150 and ordered to pay for the damage to the police car.
No conviction was recorded.
'Paralytic' P-plater caught after naked Night Owl drink run
A naked P-plater was caught drink driving more than three times the limit after he was kicked out of a convenience store while trying to buy an energy drink in the nude.
The court heard of his "spectacular" first traffic history entry when Branden Jarred Kettunen pleaded guilty in Maroochydore Magistrates Court.
On February 10, last year triple-0 received reports a naked Kettunen had attempted to buy a Red Bull from a Night Owl, but had no money.
After he was kicked out, the staff member saw Kettunen drive away, which prompted them to alert authorities.
Police found Kettunen a short time later about 6.30am and he told officers he didn't know where his clothes were or where he was going.
A Queensland Fire and Emergency Services officer also sighted Kettunen, before he was apprehended, swerving across the road and running a red light.
At 7.22am, Kettunen recorded a blood alcohol concentration of 0.171.
He pleaded guilty to drink driving.
Kettunen was fined $1100 and disqualified from driving for 11 months.
Convictions were recorded.
