Eagles raid Brothers as Fassifern stay firm
GOODNA have come away with an impressive win over Brothers Ipswich despite injuries causing mass changes to the run-on side.
A new-look Eagles forward pack put the blue and white boys to the sword with a 10-try feat at the Brothers home ground.
Corey Kirk continued his strong form with the boot to add eight conversions, including one from his own try, to bring up 20 individual points.
The loss continues an up-and-down start to the season for Brothers, who have just one win from four rounds.
Norths loss to Swifts means both teams from last year's grand final were on the receiving end of defeats in the same round of the IRL.
After a week off for the representation round, Goodna will face a Norths outfit eager to bounce back and reclaim their top spot on the IRL ladder.
Brothers will travel to Fassifern looking for their second win of the season.
Bombers hold on
FOUR tries to West End's John Maila was not enough to earn the Bulldogs their first win of the season.
Fassifern skipper Scott Ireland was happy with the 28-22 win after leading West End 22-8 at one stage.
"It was scrappy," he said. "We fell into some old habits and we're probably a bit unhappy we let ourselves get into that situation.
"But I think we still played our best footy in patches of the game, and I was happy with our goal line defence."
The win was soured by a potential season-ending injury to forward Ryan Leslie.
"Ryan picked up a pretty bad knee injury," Ireland said. "It looks like he'll be gone for the season.
"We are lucky we have a lot of depth in the reserves at the moment but it will be very hard to replace a worker like him.''
